What is Slynd?

Slynd is a progestogen-only contraceptive pill containing 4 mg drospirenone, a synthetic progestogen. It is not currently licensed for use as HRT in the UK, but some clinicians may prescribe it off licence as part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for individuals who still have a womb.

When oestrogen is taken as part of HRT, it can cause the lining of the womb (endometrium) to thicken. Slynd balances this effect, helping to keep the lining healthy and reduce the risk of endometrial cancer.

Slynd is taken daily and continuously, omitting the 4 inactive pills included in its standard contraceptive packaging. It may be used as an alternative for people who experience side effects from other types of progestogens used in HRT.
