Utrogestan is a body-identical progesterone used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for individuals who still have a womb. It is made from plant sources and is chemically identical to the progesterone your body naturally produces.
When you take oestrogen as part of HRT, it can cause the lining of the womb (endometrium) to thicken. Utrogestan balances this effect, helping to keep the lining healthy and reducing the risk of endometrial cancer.
Utrogestan is usually prescribed alongside oestrogen in either a cyclical (monthly) or continuous (daily) regimen, depending on your stage of menopause. If you’ve had a hysterectomy, you typically won’t need it.
